![]() Special Appeals to WFMU's Most Dedicated Listeners Three years ago, it was clear that WFMU would have to either move, or buy into a vacant college campus. Although we had no money for a down payment, we made the long-term choice and opted to buy a building and move. What made this dream a reality was the House of Tomorrow fund. Each year since, several hundred of our most dedicated listeners have pledged $25 per month, which has allowed us to make the wise, long-term choice. Time has vindicated our approach. The Upsala College campus remains vacant, despite several attempts at development. Meanwhile, the down payment that previous House funders allowed us to make has gone up in value considerably. The station made it's first investment in the future without turning to the government or corporations, and it has turned out to be a very wise move. But the long-term wisdom of our decision has been accompanied by short-term pain. The road to our new home was riddled with legal, environmental and structural problems. We were able to overcome all of these, but it was at the expense of having ample funds to complete our studios and offices. Our 1999 House of Today campaign will allow us to finish, once and for all, the work that we started three years ago. A regular donation to WFMU helps the station pay for day to day expenses, but a $300 House of Today donation will go directly into the wiring and completion of our new studios. As of this writing, we're working feverishly to complete the studio that we will need to conduct our marathon from. The work is being done by volunteers and contractors who are kind and dedicated enough to defer payment. We need to finish the work, finish the payments, clear out the station's credit card bills and get back to something resembling normalcy. We also hope that we finally have a solution to our seasonal cash-flow crisis. Listeners who are able to contribute at the $1000 or higher level are asked to designate their contribution for our new Y3K Solution Fund, which will go directly into an interest-bearing money market account. This account will accrue interest 12 months a year, and will then provide access to lower-interest credit, which is needed to mitigate the severity of our annual cash-flow problem. After several years, we hope that our Y3K Solution Fund will lead the way out of the financial desperation that has plagued us each and every Autumn since the early Eighties. Donations to this fund can be made through either check, or appreciated securities. Donated securities carry extra tax benefits beyond standard tax deductions. If you can help,.. go to our House of Today page and choose an amount, a payment option, and all your tchotchke choices. Even if you can't help us at these higher levels, we hope that you'll be able to help us out with a regular Marathon donation, by pledging online. All donations to WFMU are tax-deductible, less the value of any tchotchkes you receive in exchange. House Of Today funders get to choose a number of items from the hibernating WFMU Catalog Of Curiosites. here is a list of available items. WFMU home page ©1999 WFMU.org | |
